Betsy Rubenstone’s Summer Product Pick

Our skincare director, Betsy Rubenstone’s beauty product pick for the summer is the deme MelaShade lotion. An avid tennis player, Betsy is out in the sun for up to 5 hours while on the court each weekend! While being outside and getting great exercise are extremely important to Betsy, so is protecting her skin from sun damage.

Betsy knows that there are 2 types of sunblock. The first type is physical sun block—think about the lifeguards in Atlantic City that put the thick white coating of sunscreen on their noses. That is either zinc or titanium- and each particle acts like shield to protect the skin from the sun, either reflecting or scattering the UV rays away before hitting the skin. The second type is chemical sun block. Thanks to all of the new advances in skincare, this type uses certain active ingredients to block the sun by absorbing the energy of UV radiation before it affects the skin. This is why the new products are light as air and can provide as much or more protection than its thicker and goop like predecessor

Now because Betsy uses deme’s MelaShade when she is out on the court, she uses both types of sun block in one great product, to keep protected in addition to wearing her cute visor for added coverage and style. MelaShade provides a light weight protection to her skin, and her visor protects the more delicate skin around her eyes, from the sun’s harmful rays. It doesn’t hurt that her visor also matches her tennis outfit! What makes deme’s Melashade even better is that is also is a tinted moisturizing lotion that keeps Betsy’s skin looking great! To keep her shoulders from getting red, Betsy also likes to apply Neutrogena’s Fresh Cooling Body Mist Sunblock with SPF 70 for an added coverage and the non-comedogenic cold mist formula feels great on her skin.

Betsy wants everyone to know that she always reapplies all of her sunscreen every 90 minutes in order to keep the advanced, SPF protection from breaking down from the sun. That is the key to Betsy’s healthy glow!
